Housepoint Inspections

We Work for You.
We Tell You the Truth.

What is Radon?

Radon is an invisible radioactive gas that seeps into 14 out of 100 homes in the US, sometimes causing lung cancer. The National Safety Council estimates that Radon is responsible for 7,000 to 30,000 deaths in the US annually.

How Can I Detect Radon?

Without testing, there is no way to tell if you have a Radon problem in your house. The United States Environmental Protection Agency now recommends every building be tested for Radon and re-tested regularly.

How Much Does the Test Cost?

Our radon test costs $100, or $90 with a home inspection and for repeat customers.

How Long Do I Have to Wait for Results?

You will receive results in less than 10 days.

Why Choose Housepoint?

We only test for Radon, we do not mitigate it or receive money from any company that does. This means that the results you get from us will be honest, we won't fudge the numbers or make the problem sound more serious than it is to try to sell you a mitigation system.

How Is Radon Eliminated?

A mitigation company will give you specifics for your house. However, the most typical fix involves installing a pipe into your basement floor with a fan to draw the radon up and out of your house.

How Much Does It Cost to Eliminate Radon?

Prices can vary, so we recommend getting a few estimates from contractors that you can find through the better contractor's bureau. $1200. is a ball-park figure, but again, we specialize in testing, not in installing mitigation equipment so get a few estimates from them.

Are there houses with Radon problems in the Rochester area?

Yes. Radon can be a problem anywhere, and Radon levels can vary from house to house in one neighborhood.

How often should I test?

We recommend every year and a half. That way you can test in different seasons, which is necessary because Radon levels can vary. If you'd like, we will send a postcard to remind you when it's time for your next test.
